AND THE RECENT ELECTIONHOW IT AFFECTED THE LABOUR PARTY. (Received Last Night u.o o'clock.) LONDON, April 1. In the House of Commons, Mr Claude Lowther, Unionist M.P. for Cumberland, asked the Prime Minister whether it Avas a fact that, despite the Osborne judgment, the Trades Unions had financed forty members of the House in the recent elections.
- The Right Hon. H. H. Asquith declined to !nioke a definite statement in the 'matter.
Mr Ramsay Macdonald,' Leader of the Labour Party, interviewed regarding Mr Lqwther's question, said it was generally true that the Labour, candidates were financed. The Labour Party Avere not, he said, breaking the law. They were simply ignoring it. No injunction had been placed upon Trades Unions, and thev would continue doing as they had done before. They declined to recognise things which were admitv edly\mfair, and which were about to be removed. The Labourites were holding the fort while the xlouse of Commons considered a remedy.
