HONOURING THE PIONEERS.
NEW PLYMOUTH, Last Night. The unveiling of an obelisk to commemorate the landing of the pio" neer settlers at Moturoa in 1841 and 1842, took place to-day, in the pres- - once of a great gathering, including many pioneers and veterans. Speeches were made by the Jaon. Thos. MacKenaie, Mr Okey, M.P., * the Hon. 'Mr Cara<posis, M.L.C., and Mr Tisch (Mayor of New' 1 Plymouth). The actual unveiling- was performed hy'Mesdames Wood-and JSmithV lady - passengers by the William Bryan,, which arrived at TaranaH on March i 31st, 184-1.
