WHEAT EXPERIMENTS.
For several years the ; Agricultural Department of Victoria, has < encouraged farhiers :itt!.: different' localities' tip set certaitt/ plots of experimental as has Defii; done vix New Zealand, with a ascertaining the yields of different kinds of wheat treated in different ways, :of which careful record had been kept. A number of returns have recently come into the superintendent's office from the field officers who.,are engaged in estimating the yei'lds from taese plots sown last season- The best results, so far, have been-from the plot on Mr A. Boyd's,farm,. Minyip. The "Federation" wheat yielded at of 44.60 bushels to the acre; "Bunyip" 36V1&- bushels; '''Comeback" 34.83 bushels; "Yandilia King," 38.73 bushels; "College Purple Shaw," 38.44 bushels. The second best returns were those from the Longernong Agricultural College. All theplots were manured to the extent of half a hundredweight of superphosphates to the acre, and fifty pounds of seed were sown. The best oat crop reported upon, so far, was that grown by Mr T. Sharp, of Gooroombat, the following being the yield per acre of the different varieties:—"Algerian," '44.S bushels; "Bonanza," 33.96 bushels; "Tasmanian Giant White" 38.8 bushels; 'White," 39.44 bushels; "New.Zealand Black," 25.28 bushels. Mr A. Boyd, of Minyip, comes second; in theoat yicfld. The oat plots were manuredl the same as the wheat plots. These experiments ■ are being con-' ducted under the direction of Mr J. M. Connor, Agricultural Superintendent of the Department.
