THE EDINBURGH GARDENS CASE.

MELBOURNE, March 24
Percy Fynch has been acquitted of the charge of murdering Archibald Steane.
At the inquest touching the death of deceased, i: Fynch made a statement to the effect that he, with two girls, was crossing the Edinburgh Gardens, North Fitzroy, when deceased asked for a cigarette, and then attempted to assault one of the girls. A fight followed. Deceased produced a toy revolver, and he (Fynch) ■ snatched it away, and- hit the deceased on.the head. -.Deceased: felly and witness ran away*/ Deceased,was under.- the, .influence of.
that deceased was perfectly sober on the night of the tragedy , also that he was of a quiet temperament, and had never smoked. A medical witness; was of opinion that death was the result 0f...a-kick on the head while deceased was prostrate. • ..
