WILL CANADA BE ANNEXED ?

Received This Morning, o'clock

SYDNEY, March 21

Sir "William Lyne, who has just returned from America, after discussing the American-Oanadian reciprocity arrangements with business men of Canada, returns with the ' conviction that if the agreement ,i| ; ratified by the Dominion HousOj Canada wilt be annexed by the Unitr ed States, in eight or ten years, and the Bi-ittsh Empire will begin to disintegrate. He attributes the reciprocity negotiations to tne failure of the British Government in 1907 to make! a preferential treaty 1 with the self-governing Dominions. > The Americans he met in San Francisco did not cloak the fact that the* idea in their minds was the absorption of Canada. The reciprocal trade wouldvallow .American, trusts ] and combines' to spreadt'-throughj Canada. He was glad' to see a: grow- 1 ing feeling in Canada against the) treaty. He thinks the people have more sense than, to ratify the agreq, ment, .., / . '., ~, ■■../' - *-tali*.""
