The, Masterton,. Town . Tuul wifs packed' to 1 overflowing,' last night, when Mr/Hi D, Bedford* MA,,- of Duhedih, delivered' a stirring address on the No-license question. The chair was occupied by his Worship the Mayor (Mr J. M. Coradine), and there were;a:number of No-license enthusiasts on the platform; . .....■.'•'
Mr' Bedford ' entertained his hearers for over two hours' with a masterly disquisition .on the subject of ■ ideal's;; scientific facts arid illuminated with convincing figures. He referred at gi-eat length to the influerice of alcohol upon the human system, and appealed to his hearers, in the names of the wives and children, and of future generations, to keep the bars closed. At the conclusion of his address, which was a brilliant oratorical effort, the following resolution was earned, amidst . applause:—. "That • this., vast. assembly of . Mastertou citizens declares,■ No-license-to'•:' be a magnificent success, and in the best and highest interests of the:■■ community.''
A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr Bedford, after he had answered a number of questions, and the meeting closed with the "Benediction."
