TE WHARAU.
The weather has been fine for the past week, and the country every; where is looking splendid.
Poisoning operations, which have been going on hers for the past two months, are practically completed, and consequently a number of men will be out of employment. Mr Hindle Smith, cadet on Flat Point Station, met with rather a : severe accident last Monday, when a sheep, bumping into him, caused a pair of shears to severely cut an artery in the right wrist. Mr Smith was 'conveyed to Masterton, where he will be under doctors' orders for some time. The Rev. Thompson, of Carterton, is conducting a series of meetings here during this week, Messrs Parata and lorns are in l« this district at present, in connection with the taking of the Native census. Mr F. C. H. Cotter, who is now postmaster at Te Wharau, has had a new office built which is considerably more commodious and convenient than the old one. The Telegraph Department has had the new office fitted'up this week. ; , Mr Bedford he]da very successful 'No4icense meeting in the Te Wharau Schoolroom on Tuesday night. The room was crowded,.and Mr Bedford's- address was listened to with great interest. Several questions were asked at the conclusion of the meeting and satisfactorily answered. Mr Tatham called for a hearty vote of thanks to the speaker, which was enthusiastically, given, and "Mr Bedford proposed a vote of thanks to the chairman (Mr M. J. McGregor.) ,
