MARKET DAY.
[To The Edlior."] >
Sir, —Can you telMne what is the 'matter with the town of Masterton on Wednesdays? This particular day in the week used to be referred to with pride by our townspeople as "Market Day," but the term cannot be truthfully applied as things are at present, for Wednesday is just as dull as any other day in the week. Of course,-.the reason is the holding of the sales at the new Solway saleyards, under, the auspices of the Associated Auctioneers. The yards are so far out of the town that settlers have not time to stay in Masterton, even for lunch, but have to drive, right through the. town to Solway, arid then it is a caserof "home again." Now, sir, I think the auctioneers, put of consideration for tradesmen and also the sottiers-,''njight postpone the hour for commencing the sale from 12:30 to 1.80 p.m. This extra hour would mean a great deal for the business community of the town, for certainly as things are now, market day is a thing of the past.—l am, etc.," TRADESMAN.
