Lieut. Blighting,, of the. Masterton | Rifles, has passed as drill instructor at the Tanherenikau camp, and his headquarters will be Wanganui. y
Mr A. L. Herdman, M.P., for Wellington North, has accepted an, invitation to deliver a political address at Wanganui, and will speak there on Friday of next week.
Brigadier Bray, in charge of the social work of the Salvation Army in the North Island, will leave for London, via Sydney, .to-morrow, to attend the congress of: social workers summoned by General Booth.
• The;*friends of Mr and' Mrs ' H. J. Jackson, of,, Pine Street, ■ Masterton, will, regret to learn of the death of their son .^Leopold;, at the age of'. .14 years. The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon.
•, Mr Nis Lund, an old settler of Rotorua, is at present in^Masterton.J. He has returned from Rotorua, where ho has been taking the baths for an acute attack of rheumatism. He declares himself to be completely,cured. Mrs O. C. Cooper, of Masterton, has received cabled new ; s of the death, at Sydney, at the age of twenty-three years, of Mr Lionel Riddiford, youngest son of Mr E. J. Riddiford, of Lower Hutt. Deceased had been seriously ill for of months, and was taken to a sanatorium in Sydney for treatment. The late Mr Riddiford was a nephew of Mr A. R. Bunny, and a cousin of Mrs Cooper. The friends of Mr F. De Lisle, who left Masterton last month to join the Adelaide University*, and Congregational College, glad to learn that he has commenced his work very auspiciously. On a recent Sunday, however, he was put • under a trying ordeal, having been called upon to preach at College Park Church (a large suburban edifice), in the presence of Prof. Bevan, who afterwards invited the young preacher to dine with him. Dr. Bevan said he wished to be regarded by Mr De Lisle as a personal friend, and not only as the Principal of the Theological College.
