MASTERTON'S NEW TOWN CLERK.
The Masterton Borough Council is > to ibe ■congratulated upon the 'ap- ; ipomtmeub'it has made of a, : successor "to Mr W.:T. Mansfield" as Town Clerk and Engineer. The Council lias probably acted wisely in combining tlie two offices, though there are I not a few who are of opinion that there should have been two officers in_ stead of-one. However, the gentleman who has been selected for the position (Mr James Archer) possesses all the engineering qualifications that are necessary, and has, besides; considerable experience as an ac„countant. That he will be v given every assistance hi the carrying out of his arduous duties by both Councillors and townwspeople goes withl out saying.
