ARMAMENTS.
The debate in the British House of Commons on the question of naval construction revealed the fact that the people are becoming tired of the race for supremacy. There can only be one ending to it all, and that is disarmament. Germany has been surreptitiously building warships whilst Britain has been sleeping, and now that the designs of the Continental nation are .discovered, Britain determines at all hazards to maintain'"her supremacy. It is purely and simply a question of money. And, when it comes to a consideration of that sort, it is plain to be seen which nation can hold out . the longest. But why should such enormous sum's bo squandered upon imI *plements of war? Wiry should the l-;people of either Germany or Britain ; he impoverished to gratify a lust tfor -power? The position Tia* become intolerable. The people'of 'neither : nation can stand the strain. It I/may be that a war will be necessary to produce the climax. But some- • thing must happen to put a stop to • the wicked squandering of money ' which is at present going on in the j name of. peace.
