STREETS AND RAILWAYS SUBMERGED.
CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE DONE

MELBOURNE, March 7,
A remarkably heavy storm ownrred this afternoon, where blinding rain fell.
The streets were submerged, and the railway line and many low-lying places were covered with water. The trains are plouging through the floods, the vehicles being axle deep. ■
In many of -the streets the. water is over the footpaths.
The Flemingfcon races' and all outdoor events ha.ve been postpone .
Considerable damage rbas been done. ; .
