CORRESPONDENCE
SHAPING AND TRIMMING. [To The Editor.'] Sir, —I notice that Mr Perry "deprecates" the shaping and trimming of show-sheep. I have looked up the meaning of the word "deprecate" in Webster's Dictionary, and find the meaning given as "to avert by prayer; to pray against, as an evil; | to seek to avert by prayer ;to seek the removal of ; (especially hairy tips); to seek deliverance from; to express deep regret for; to disapprove of strongly."—l am, etc., H. G. WILLIAMS. THE HORTICULTURAL SHOW. {To The Editor.'] Sir. —"Another Amateur" is .mistaken. 1 am not a disappointed one. I am pleased that "Another Amat- ( eur" agrees with me that any person j who employs a professional gardener, either permanently or intermittantly, ( should be debarred from Amateur classes. This is exactly my, reason for writing in the first instance, and if the Horticultural Society will bar ! these exhibitors who employ professional gardeners as above stated, from the Amateur classes, I assure them it will remove a sore point with many, whose beautiful flowers never adorn our shows.—l am, etc., , • 'J "AMATEUR."
