RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE GENERAL COMMITTEE. A meeting of the sub-committee appointed to'draw up a report as to what steps should be taken to recognise the public spirit and. generosity of the Masterton A. and P. Association's Committee in establishing the Solway showgrounds was held last evening, there being present Messrs O. N. C. Pragnell (in the chair), .J. E. McEwen, J. W. Blackmail, J. Elliott, J. Henderson, S. A. Noble-Campbell, A. D. "Gill-i-es, J. Georgeson, J. Bradbury, and J. Pauling. Apologies for absence were : received from Messrs C. F. Crosbie, W, Gillespie, J. Pryor, and F. Hunri. The chairman stated that it had been suggested by some of the members that the whole matter should be held over until after the winter months. There had already been a large' number of sports gatherings and picnics this season, and the weather Was getting very uncertain. He l thought the sub-com-mittee, ought to report to the General Committee that they considered it advisable to postpone the -matter at the present time. Mr -Henderson agreed with- the Chairman, stating, that the days, were already drawing in. Mi' McEwen .stated that tho weather next season might be quite as > unsettled as at present. He favoured going on immediately. Mr Campbell also agreed " with the chairman, but lie suggested that the matter be kept before the public; by holding an occasional concert and isocial. xvir .raunng suggested Having Subscription lists , always; before«the public. It was pointed; out that races and concerts and many other functions would be occupying (the attention of those interested for the next few months. The ladies particularly would be very busy. If a sports meeting were held in November horses, for the jumping, events would, be' in vexcellent foirm;'."liie.general feeling was that it.wouldbea great mistake to hold any function. before next spring. Mr -uenderson moved that'V'it be a recommendation to the General Committee jthat the 'outdoor function be held next spring on a date to'be fixed) later. The motion was seconded by Mr Blackmail and carried. : Ma* Campbell proposed that the outdoor function be a picnic to be held at Solway together with sports of all kinds, including hoirse events. 'Mr J. Bradbury seconded: the motion, which was carried unanimously. ' The chairman moved that it be a recommendation to the General Committee that an active canvass be .maidie forthwith for funds in aid of the object. The motion was seconded by Mr Elliott. >" Mr MoEwen opposed the motion, stating that he thought the people wete balled upon too much, and concerts and isocials would give the people something for, their money. Mr Campbell agreed with Mr McEwen, stating that there were too many subscription lists before the people. • 1 •* The chairman agreed' to alter his motion to read that a subscription list be opened. The motion as amended was carried. It was decidted. to recommend the. General Committee to call the fund the Solway Recognition Fund. iOni the motion of Mr Campbell, seconded, by Mr MoEwen, it was further decided .to recommend to tne General Uommittee tliat socials be held during the winter.
