RIFLE SHOOTING.

WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION'S AN-

NUAL MEETING

[By Telegraph—l J ress Association.'] GREYTOWN, Last Night. The nineteenth annual meeting of the Wairarapa Rifle Association was opened on the Greytown Rifle Cluh's range at Papawai, near Greytown, this morning, under ideal shooting conditions—the light being good and what wind there was did not interfere with the shooting". There were 116 entries from riflemen from various districts in the Wellington province, Auckland, and the South Island. Arrangements in connection with the meeting were excellent in every inspect. The secretary (Mr A. L. Webster) "and his energetic' committee, spared no pains to have everything as complete as possible. An innovation as- far as the Wairarapa is concerned, was introduced in the matter of providing accommodation, on the ground .for visiting shooters. About fifty men are sleeping under canvas, and having-their meals on the range, and they speak'in high terms of the foresight of the Association in proi viding this convenience. ! Auckland is well represented, amongst those present being Captain J. Potter (Auckland Mounted Rifles A. Squadron). Lieutenant F. J. Atkinson (Auckland Mounted Rifles A Squadron), Corporal W. Perston (No. 2 Garrisan Artillery Territorials), Corporal L. W. Hunt (No. 3 Native Rifles), Sergeant-Major W. Maingay (Piako Mounted Rifles) and Franks. There is also a largp number of Opaki- riflemen competing. Shooting .was commenced with the Nursery and W.F.C.A. matches and the first stage of the Carterton match (oOOvds) is not completed yet. . The shooting generally is good. *
