MASTERTON STOCK SALE
Messrs iDaJgety • and • Company,: Limited, report having held their first sale under the auspices of the Auctioneers' Association in the new Solway yards. Entries came to hand in. numbers which taxed the yards to their utmost, ' but' it is anticipated that* within a fortnight's time the conttiractors : will have completed the erection, when we feel .sure* that | ample accommodation, will be available for all entries that come forward, and the consensus of opinion is that the yards are up-to-date in all details. There was a large gathering of buyers from all parts of the Wairarapa, and competition for all wethers and good ewes' was fairly keen, and prices, realised must be considered satisfactory to vendors, being somewhat in advance of late ruling rates. The yards were taxed to .their utmost capacity, and although the general expressed .opinion was. that the yards were too large, yesterday proved that this idea was quite er- ! roneous, as several lines arriving late were unable to be drafted. The quality of, the cattle throughout was good. A large entry of well-grown bullocks in forward condition' was submitted, which met with a ready sale at prices considerably in excess of vendors' anticipations on the whole. The Brancepeth beef was greatly admired, comprising fifty well-bred property-finished, bullocks, which, after keen competition, £9 10s to £lO lis. Several very good station lines of sheep were offered, including a particularly attractive line of over 600 fat wethers owned by Mr John Strang, of Glenside Station, which made the satisfactory price of 16s 3d to 16s Hid. The usual cull lines offering at this j time of the year, were prominent, '■ but the bulk of. them sold at satis- ] factory prices to the vendors, and practically the whole of our entry changed hands at auction. The attendance' was exceptionally large, including many buyers from a distance, and the sale may be up as most satisfactory.
