MASTERTON TECHNICAL SCHOOL.
ANNUAL MEETING OF SUBSCRIBERS.
The annual .meeting of subscribers -of the Ma'sterton Technical School Classes Association was held l last evening. Mr E. Feist presided over a small attendance. An apology for ~ -absence wa& received from Mr C. E. % Daniell. The chairman stated that he was sorry to see such a small attendance, but he said he thought it indicated that the' subscribers were satisfied with the work being done by the Managers. A letter was received from the Mastertton County Council, stating that the Council were quite satisfied with the work of the Managers, and 'did not wish to avail themselves of the invitation to nominate a candid •date for election to the Board of : Managers. The Town Clerk wrote, stating ihat the Borough Council had nominated His Worship the Mayor, Mr •J. M. Coradine, as a candidate for the Board. Mr A. J. -fathaway, secretary to the Masterton Trust Lands Trustees, wrote ' stating that the Trust had nominated' Messrs Feist, Daniell, Jackson, Waddington, and the Rev. Dean McKenna as candidates to the Board of Managers. The Very Rev. Dean McKenna wrote stating that owing to his time being so fully occupied he would not V be able to offer himself for re-election to.the Board. The annual report and balance sheet were read, as already published. ( The chairman referred' to the excellent work of the secretary, and expressed his regret at Dean McKenna's retirement. He moved the adoption of the report and balance sheet. ' The motion was seconded by Mr Waddington. Mr A. W. Hogg, M.P., expressed gratification with the report. It was J»i the most satisfactoi-y one he had " heard since the /opening of the school. It reflected credit on the Managers and the teaching staff. He was pleased to .find that there had heen such satisfactory attendances. Notwithstanding this fact, there was still room for improvement. It was a matter for regret that the public , did not take more interest in the Technical School. The* school had i now reached a position which refected credit on the Borough and district. There was a fine building and an excellent staff. Instruction of the kind received at a Technical % School was capable of doing an incalculable amount of good to the community. Continuation classes were of special benefit to families that-were not in very good circumstances. Their children had to leave school early, and-the only means they had of securing further education was by attending night classes, 'if J the young people would realise this, ' every room in the building would j very : soon be occupied. In conclus-
ion Mr Hogg expressed the hope that >.the success of the-school during the jkiiext year would' be.'even, more pror nounced. Mr Hogg expressed his regret that the Yerj Rev; Dean McT£enna was not offering himself : for re-eleetion. v ■ •'.'' Messrs Jackson and Pragnell also "spoke, both expressing regret at the Bey. Dean McKenna's; decision. .'■■ Messrs Foss and Lamb, on. behalf of the teaohing staff, spoke of the cordiality that had always existed between the Managers, the secretary , and the instructors. • , The report was adopted. ,•;..■■. • 'JQhie appointment of " a Board ■■• of Managers) resulted in the following I gentlemen being re-eiected:— Messrs l E.
