A SURVEY PARTY AT WORK

A party of Government surveyors, under Mr .Campbell, is art present located in the Putara district, wit : h ; the object, it is said, of picking the best track across the ranges to bring Eketahuna icto immediate touch, with the Shannon'district. \ It might be mentioned that for ;some ten or twelve years there has 'been an agitation by residents of the Eketahuna and Shannon districts for the construction of/ a road or track ■across the ranges that would bring the East and West Coasts into closer communication. A few years back a flying survey of a route was made, but' work was not gone on with. Mr Field, M.P. for Otaki, lias recently been interesting himself in the matter, and no doubt the present step is the outcome of his efforts.— Express.
