tWO MEN ARRESTED. CHARGED WITH MURDER. • By Telegraph — Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. At half-past eleven this morning Harry Alexander Jack and Walter Richard Saddler were arrested at the latter's shop in Cashel Street and charged with the •' murder of, Ethel May Bradley on or about February 7th, at Christchurch. The arrest was made by Chief Detective Bishop ! and Detectives Eade, Miller and C4ibson. The two submitted quietly. Both were given the usual caution made at arrests, and accordingly I mr.de no statements. A special sitting of the Police Court was held at i 12.20 by Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M., | when the two men were formally jcharged with the crime.' Mr Russell appeared for Saddler. On the application of Chief Detective Bishop, who appeared for the prosecution, a formal remand was granted till toj morrow week, accused" -'riot- objecting. His Worship remarked that,he supposed another remand' would beasked for then. Bail was not asked for. Both men stepped into the dock confidently enough, Saddler with a smile upon his face. When he j heard <the\ word "murder," however, }it seemed to shake his self-possess-ion. His eye blinked, -he bit his lip, and at the finish was trembling all over. Jack looked more serious \n the dock than Saddler, but retained his self-possession, a forced smile occasionally wreathing his face. Both men were deathly pale. Saddler is a man of about 35 years of age,' and a barber by trader He was born in Lyttelton, and , lias since worked in i-arious shops in this city, at "one time being manager for a ; tobacconist shop and hairdressing . saloon. About four years ago he entered- Mr Rassell's tobacconist's shop and'-'liairdressing saloon, in Cashel Street, and succeeded Mr Russell in :.t1& business, three' months ago. Jack is 23 years of age, rather under medium height, of straight figure, rather dark, with straight- hair, and is clean' shaven, with a pallid complexion. He hailed" from Dunedin,' where his father keeps a boot shop. Arriving here about four years ago, ho did' relief work in various shops, until he entered the service of Mr Russell (Saddler's pi-edecessor) about three years ago. , When Saddler: took over the business three, months ago, Jack entered his employ. .- :
