•" :;GISBORNE; Last Night. •■■■ ;■■ A heavy gale has - I>een raging since Friday night, and a 'tremendous sea is running on the Coast. There was no steamer communication to-day. The Union Company's Mokoia met the squall at Haupiri, and was compelled to run fOrVshelter to Te Araroa. Even if the Mokoia wei-e here, it wkmld be utterly ixripossible to tender her, as the sea is breaking high pver the breakwater and groyne. The present arrangements are to .tender her at noon to-morrow; \but unless the weather improves considerably it is possible the Mokoia win go .right on. In the meantime a large number of visitors to the races, and sixteen horses, are weather bound. The rivers and creeks'in the countrydisti'icts Tare' looded, and some \ stock have been drowned
