Tho Rev. H. Watson, and Mrs Watsou, of Masterton, have this week been spending a holiday in Pliramerton. A cable message received laist night from London stated that Lord Charles Beresford had retired from the Navy; having reached the age limit. The Rev, Father McCarthie, of Australia, one of the Order of Vincentian Missionary Fathers, is a visitor to Masterton. and is the guest of the Very Rev. Dean McKenna, He will conduct the services at the local Catholic Church to-morrow. The funeral of the infant son ;of Mr and Mrs Corlett, Bannister Street, took place yesterday. A number of beautiful wreaths were placed upon the grave. The pall-bearers were Masters H. Devonport, H. Logan, F. Dayis, and W. McMichael. The ceremony at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. W. Raint. As the Prime Minister leaves for the;,south next Wednesday, he will be unable to be present at the Masterton show.
