A CITIZEN'S SUGGESTION.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —I have been much interested in the work of the Committee of our local Agricultural and Pastoral Association, and I have continually felt proud of our town and district in possessing such an energetic, generous, and capable A. and P. Committee. The generosity of all its members —especially that section of it known as the Solway Syndicate—has evoked the admiration and respect of every public-spirited citizen, and words fail to express the gratitude that is due to them for the great impetus they have given Alasterton in connection with the new Solway Showgrounds. Not only has the farming community received a distinct benefit as the result of their great enterprise, but the town has also .practically received the gift of a people's park. I write to make a suggestion which I, in common with many others, would like to see carried out. My suggestion is that the citizens and members of the A. and P. Association should organise a great banquet, or'■some such shitable function, in honour and admiration of the work of the Committee of the A. and P. Association. Many of the members of this Committee will, after their decease, receive well deserved praise. Why not give them praise whilst they are in our midst? If ever the citizens of any town ought' to extend thanks and praise 'to these men, Masterton ought. A suitable time tfoukl be after the first Show in the new grounds at Solway. If the Mayor would take the lead and call a meeting of citizens to discuss a fit and proper way of publicly recognising 'tlie worth of the members of the Committee mentioned, I feel sure the - public would readily respond.—l am, etc., ORLANDO PiIAGNELL.
