The death is annoimced by cable of Earl Cawdore, ex-First Lord of the Admiralty. Mr W. Stainton, formerly of Rongomai, Eketahuna, has been engage.d by a syndicate to manage a run in the Waikato district. Mr J. T. M. Hornsby denies a rumour' that it is' his intention of contesting the Masterton seat at the next election. He is probably of opinion shat Wairarapa will afford him sufficient scope for his energy at one election.' The remains of the late Mr J. A. J. Maclean, of Masterton, are to be taken, to-day to Dunedin, where they .will fee interred. The funeral will leave his late residence .at . 'Laii'adowne at 9.45 a.m. for St. Matthew's Church, and will thence proceed to the railway station. Messrs Rutherford and Anderso 1. two members of the Auckland A. and P. Association, are coming to Masterton to-morrow to inspect the "Solway showgrounds. They will -probably remain in Masterton for the show.
