DEATH FROM SHOCK AND BURNS.
CKRISTCHURCH, Last Night. Miss Frances Dudley, daughter of the late Archdeacon Dudley, who was severely burned in a fire at her residence, "Earnly," Rangiora, this morning, succumbed from the effects of shock and burns this evening. NAPIER WOOL SALES. ■ NAPIER, Last Night. The fourth and last of this season's Napier wool sales was held < here this afternoon. Bidding was animated, taking into consideration the quality of the wool offering, which was inferior. -Last sale prices were well maintained. The wool catalogued was mainly? in small ■ parcels, and to some extent back country lots. Competition was keen for crossbred from B|d to 9|d, whilst first pieces met with good demand at an average of about 7d. The top I price for halfbrcd was IOJd. A few j lots were passed in. The sale was regarded as most satisfactory. LEGISLATIVE COUNCILLOR REAPPOINTED. WLELINGTON, Last Night. The Hon. Benjamin Harris, of Auckland, whose term of appointment to the Legislative Council expired o-.i February 3rd, was re-ap-pointed on that date. WORKERS' DWELLINGS. WELLINGTON, Last Night. The appointment is gazetted of Mr John Lomas, to be superintendent of workers 7 dwellings. The Boards are appointed in various districts, consisting of the superintendent, Commissioner of Crown Lands for the district, and the local Inspector of Factories. LAND FOR SETTLEMENT. GORE, Last Night. Sir Joseph Ward has advised Mr Malcolm, M.P., that the Government has decided to negotiate for the purchase of Watson and Shennan's Conical Hills estate, which is situated near Waitahi, SWIMMING. WELLINGTON, Last Night. x In the New Zealand Swimming, Championships, the 'draw, Canterbury A v. Wellington B, was played off to-night, and resulted in a win for Canterbury by three goals to one. PEA-RIFLE ACCIDENT. BLENHEIM, Last Night. Two boys, Walter Penny and Alb-r ert Etching, both aged fifteen, were out v rabbit~shopting yesterday afternoon with '.pe.a-rifi.es. .Penny fired through a-gorge bush at a rabbit, and the bullet struck Kitohing in the abdomen, passing out at the side. Fortunately it passed the vital organs, and the boy is likely to recover. DRUIDISM. ' ' AUCKLAND, Last Night. A conference of delegates of the North Island Grand Lodge of Druids is proceeding.
