BIBLE IN SCHOOLS.

The Minister for Education (Hon. G. Fowlds) speaking at Auckland yesterday, stated that there had been an agitation in favour of admitting the Bible to State schools. The great mass of the people, however, were unmisfcakeably in favour ofmaintaining the present system, and the -present Government stood by the system. It would be interesting to know when, and where, the people were given an opportunity of expressing an opinion on the subject. They have asked for a referendum, it is true, but the Democratic Government has refused to give it. Mr Fowlds states that "the will of the people must prevail." On points of conscience a great many.people will disagree with him. But that is another story. When has the will of the people been sought on the question of Bible instruction?
