The London Daily Mail of December 10th, which has just reached Masterton, contains the following:— Mr Alton, director of the English Radium Institute, has concluded the purchase of one gramme of radium, from, the Mines Department of the< Austrian Ministry of Public Works. The price is £15,000, and the funds for the purchase are being provided, by Sir Ernest Cassel, -whowill place this large quantity of the metal at the disposal of the English Institute for medical purposes. ?'.'.'.

One gramme is equal to .564 of a dram avoirdupois. Sixteen drams go to the ounce, and the price of the radium per ounce may-be roughly estimated at £470,000.
