STRIKE OF RAILWAYMEN. (Received Last Night, 3.5 o'clock.) LONDON, February 5. The enginemen and signalmen at Hull struck work at midnight, and picketing began at various depots. The railwaymen at Newcastle and Gateshead have decided to await tomorrow's mass meeting, called to consider the quesion of striking at midnight.
THE STRIKE COLLAPSES. • Received This Morning, 12.20 o'clock. LONDON, February 5. The railway strike has collapsed, the men discovering that they were mistaken concerning the North Eastern Company's treatment of the grievances of discharged fish porters. The General Manager's announcement that unless the strikers returned to work on Monday their places would be filled, accelerated the decision. Many strange scenes occurred dining the strike. The public travelled without-ticketc, particularly the crowds attending football matches. The quays of Hull are heaped with fish, which it is impossible to distribute. THE WELSH MINERS (Received Last Night, 5.5 o'clock.) LONDON, February 5. The South Wales Miners' Federation, vvith the support of tile, Cambrian miners, has asked the Board ot Trade to interpret the assurances contained in the letter of Mr D. Thbnisv: concerning the settlement of the Cambrian dispute.
