JUDGE SIM.
The Otago Trades avid. Labour Council, violent letter to the Minister for Labour, has impeached one of the most honourable and conscientious Judges on the Supreme Court Bench of New Zealand. It has also impeached the Arbitration Act, and, inferentially, the Minister. And how has the Minister treated the violent threats of the Labour Council? Instead of resenting what is nothing more nor less than an impudent attempt to intimi- 1 date a Judge, he has meekly replied that legislation will be introduced to deal with the matter. What a pitiful exhibition of spinelessness! What a reproach to the name of Justice! Had a message:such as tharfc sent to the Minister of La'bour. been addressed to any Minister of the: Crown possessing; an appreciation ofi the dignity;of his position , or regard' for. the; independence of the judiciary, it would have been treated with the indignant, resent that its presumption demanded. Is it be-, cause the violent harangue comes from Dunedin that the Minister treats it.,-as he would a courteous request? :
