RURAL TELEPHONES.

In the course of his speecn at Stratford last week, the Prime Minister made it clear that the Croverliment intended offering facilities for the extension of the telephone system in country districts. He stated that wherever associations' of settlers were formed for the purpose of erecting lines with their own material, the Government would make a grant in aid, according to the importance of the undertaking. Those willing to subsidise CJovernment lines would also be relieved, as the Department will half, the risk ,of loss. It goes without, saying that concessions to settlers in the direction indicated will be very much appreciated.
