THE FIRST WASH-UP.

THE SUCCESS DREDGE. BRIHT PROSPECTS. A representative of the "Wairarapa Ago"' had a very interesting interview with Mr D. J. Cameron, of Masterton, who has just returned from a visit of inspection to the new "Success Dredge" on the West Coast, in which a large number of Masterton residents are interested i "Had the dredge been working long I at the time of your visit?" queried the reporter. "Just about four days," was the reply;- "and .it was working like clockwork. She is a beautifully constructed dredge and is the essence of strength and durability. One of I chief-features of the. dredge is jthe separate engine power for the buckets' and ptirr.ps, which will be a great featur3 in facilitating the saving of gold." "HYh there been any 'wash-up' yet:" _ _ | "Yes. I have just received a telegram from the manage: 1 of the dredge, ■ staving that the first 'wash-up' resulted in the return of 12f - ounees. , The wire further states' This is verv good foi the quantity of c,iound treated.' I consider this most satisfactory. considering that the dredge has had days;of, dead work. manoeuvring to'get under proper working conditions, which is always the case with a new dredge. Jt will take three and mere for the dredge to get a vorking face that will give a true indication of the value of the ground." "Did you hear a rumour to the effect that, the dredge had struck submerged and several* - '- of the buckets had broken ?" "Not till I came to Masterton," replied Mr Cameron, with a smile, "but certainly there is nothing in it, or {I should have heard of it. All I can say-is. that's the dredge is>working beautifully, and l as for the buckets, the weac and tear has not even removed the nc'w paint from them. Mr Hessey is down there now, and lam sure that he is more than pleased with the present results."
