AUSTRALIAN CRICKET.
SHEFFIELD SHIELD MATCH. (Received Last Night, 8.55 o'clock;) ' SYDNEY, January 27. In, the final Sheffield Shield match of the season, New South Wales, playing against Victoria, made 337 runs in their first innings, Bardsley 78, Kelleway 24, Barbour 26, Waddy 36, McElhone 101, Hordern 27, and Cotter 22, being the chief scorers. Victoria have no wickets down for seven runs. Armstrong took 3 wickets for 55 runs, Matthews 3 for 85, Laver 2 for 70, Kyle 2 for 90. The weather was fine but the wicket was a bit soft. Bardsley played a chanceless innings, i and McElhone a brilliant punishing innings. Macartney contributed another, "duck."
THE "RUBBER." (Received Last Night, 10.55 o'clock.) SYDNEY, January 27. . Much interest is being taken in the selection of the Australian team for the next test match with the South Africans. Many supporters of Mr M. A. Noble's contention, attack the need of strengthening the tcJam. Mr Trott urges the, need of good slow bowlers.
