I CARTERTON I
With thirteen games to play in the pairs tournament of the local Bowling Club, Messrs Ramsay and Hall are leading with six successive wins. The numerous friends of Mr and Mrs W. Bond, of Taihape, and formerly of Carterton, will regret to hear of the death of thoir oldest son, William. The young fellow, who was only thirteen years of age, succumbed to an attack of peritonitis, after a few days' illness. The Carterton Territorials went into camp at Belvedere on Tuesday evening. There are about forty men under canvas, the site selected on Mr Bond's property being ideal for the purpose. The men will put in a week's training, all who require leave ! during the day to follow their employment obtaining it. A, special meeting of the Borough Council, takes place on Tuesday evening next, to fix the statutory weekly half-holiday in accordance with the I Shops and Offices Act. ' Lieutenant Bowet 1 , of the local Salvation Army Corps, leaves this week on transfer to Wellington south. Tenders are being invited for the erection of a new Catholic Presbytery in Carterton. So far £25 has been realised from ,members' season tickets, and ordinary bathing charges at the local swimming baths. The work of erecting a , fenco .around the baths.is being pushed | ahead. i
