EVENING ENTERTAINMENT. \ The programme for the evening function in connection, with the PaikJ ete 011 February 2nd is a. very attractive one, and should ensuro a big attendance. A torchlight procession will leave.tii© Council Chambers at /.30 p.m., with bands, fire brigade, Friendly Societies' and the public. The Orchestral Society will submit one or two_interesting items. Vocal items will .be in the "capable hands of Mr G. C. Branson! Chieftain Te Tau has promised Maori Hakas and war dances, and as he usually manages to carry to complete success anything he undertakes, there will be a treat in store for visitors. Thompson-Payne's picture entertainment will be a source of enjoyment for young and old. In addition to all these attractions, the Y.M.C.A. will provide a Basket ball competition,* which will be a great draw, and the Vonlnteers will go through a bayonet exercise and grand assault at arms. A great display of illuminated boats will be. seen 011 the lake, and Mr Z. M. Hoar's fine fireworks display, and bombardment.' of Port. Arthur by •two Dreadnoughts under the command of man-of-wars-man George Hessey, late of H.M.S. Powerful, will be a special feature of the evening's programme that will please and interest all.
