DISTRICT NEWS.
(From Our Or/a Correspondents.) j KAIPARORO. Settlers in this district are taking full advantage of the prolonged spell ; of dry weather in order to burn felled bush, and for several days the place Mas enveloped in smoke. Light rain set in on Friday, but continued for only a few hours. The milk supply at the cheese factory has slightly decreased owing to the drying up of the pastures, but the yield still continues to be very satisfactory. Mrs Carncross, of Rongokokako, and a lady friend who were driving in a buggy on the Kaiparoro Road last week, had a.narrow escape from serious, injury through'the wheel of their vehicle coming off. The horse became startled, and both ladies Avere thrown out. They received a severe shaking and bruising, but after a short rest were well enough to be driven to their home. Mr Sunnex had the misfortune to severely cut his foot whilst working in the bush at the local mill. ■ He j was taken to Eketahuna, where he j received medical attention, but it is i feared that he will be incapacitated j for work'"for'some-weeks.
