The Hon. J. Gavin-Duffy, an exVictorian Cabinet Minister-, is at present a visitor to Christchurch. The deith is announced of Mr W. -J. Fletcher, an old and well-known citizen of "Wellington. The death is announced of .a very old resident of Napier, in the person of Mr James "Watt. The death occurred on Sunday of Mrs G. M. Thompson; wife of the member for Dunedin North. Mr W. H. Valpy, a very old resident of the Oamaru district, died last week at the- age of seventy-nine years. The Hon. P. H. May, the new High Commissioner for the Western Pacific, has sailed from Hongkong for. Australia. The whole of the Ministers of the Crown, with the exception of the Hons. G. Fowlds and A. T. Ngata, are at present in Wellington. {•; A Dunedin telegram records the 'death of Mr J. A. Chapman, headmaster of the Arthur Street school, and at one.time-prominent in football 'circles. It is understood that His Excellency the Governor has expressed his intention of being present at the forthcoming show of the Masterton A. and P. Association. A cable states that, owing to. the condition of his throat, Mr D.; LloydGeorge may have to return to the South of France. Mr G..S. Hill, Chairman of the Wellington Life-Saving Centre, ' missed the train yesterday morning, and was unable to be present at the aquatic sports in Masterton. The friends of Mr and Mrs T. Fielding will •regret,to lear that their-seven months old daughter died yesterday, altera brief illness. The funeral will take/place. to-day, : and will leave the residence, 7 Church" Street; at' 2 pM. for the Masterton cemetery. - The engagement is announced of Miss Harriett "R, Hodge, eldest daughter of the Rev; A. Hodge; of Masterton, to Mr G. Stanley Sharp, eldest son of the Rev. G. M. Sharp, of Hobart. Mr Sharp is at present pursuing his Jnedical-course at the Ota go University
