WAIRARAPA TRAIN SERVICE.
CONFERENCE TO BE HELD. At the meeting of the Council of the Masterton Chamber of Commerce yesterday, the Chairman stated that the committee that had been set up to CO2l- | sider the question of the railway time- \ table had met, and sent the following circular letter to the local bodies and Chambers of Commerce of the district: "I am instructed by my Chamber to invite you to attend a conference of representatives of Borough and County Councils and Chambers of Commerce from Martinborough and Featherston to Woodville, in Murray's Hall, Queen Street, Masterton, (next Club Hotel), on Thursday next, 26th inst, at 12 noon, when the present un- I satisfactory time-table will be discussed, with a view to making strong representations to the Minister for Railways, as to the inadequacy and iiicon- ■ venience of the present service, ind I with a view to adjusting the timetable to meet the requirements of the whole of the district. In face of the importance of the matter it is desirable that the meeting be thoroughly representative of the various bodies mentioned. It is understood that the Minister has signified his intention of holding back any alteration in the service until a deputation has _ waited upon him, and as he will be in Wellington only for the next week or so prompt action .in necessary. The Chamber is providing luncheon for the delegates; sol wiUbe glad if you will kindly advise me by return if. you will be able to attend. Trusting-you will make every effort to do so.—l am, etc., J. C. BODDINGTON." Mr Carey stated that Mr Buchanan was interesting himself, in regard to the Lower Valley delegates. He had ascertained, also, that representatives of the Pahiatua, Eketahuna and other local bodies would be present. Mr Chennells: At last we are doing the right thing by gettng a representative meeting. The Chairman stated that he nad wired Mr Ross, M.P., on the subject, but had not received a reply. The following telegram, however, had come to hand from Mr Ross:—"Suggest" you communicate Mayors and Chairmen of County Councils and Chambers Commerce, invite them to call urgent meetings respective localities to, discuss matter and nominate delegates for deputation. You should get fifty solid rs-roventative men from Wairarapa. avid Bush, including East Coast, and in addition to this, number of Wellington merchants." Mr Carey stated that the sub-com-mittee had decided that it would;/he better to have a conference in Masterton. On, the motion of Mr Daniell, the > action of the sub-committee in arranging for a conference and providing for a luncheon, was adopted. Some discussion took place on the voting power to be exercised at the conference, and it was suggested that each body have one vote. It was decided that Messrs Carey, Henderson, Summerell and Daniell represent the Masterton Chamber of Commerce. _ The question of electing a chairman for the conference was discussed, and! ifc was decided that this be hit to the fionferencs itsrj/L
