THE CRIMINAL RECORD.
The criminal records of Masterton, which are published in another part of this paper, make interesting reading. They show that there has been a marked diminution in the number of serious offences in the district during the past year, compared with the year 1909, a portion of which only was under no-license conditions. The comparison with J. 908, vihen license obtained, affords a pviiT 'more striking contrast. The figures speak eloquently for themselves, and require no comment. From the point of view of crime, no-license has been overwhelmingly successful. Has the sacrifice made for this improvement in social conditions been too. great? The people may themselves "be- left to answer.
