SCORING AT QUOITS.

A COMPETITOR'S GRIEVANCE. Mr W. de B. Compton writes as follows to the Age:— In Monday morning's Age I noticed a short report, of the Caledonian Society's late meeting. In the report it is stated that a competitor had complained that the scoring in the quoits match had not been correctly taken. This I still persist in maintaining, and I ;liave no hesitation in stating it to be the greatest piece of bungling I have: ever ', se,en or heard of in quoits And as for the judge.being satisfied that the totals were correct, all I have to say in regard to his decision is that Sir Joseph Ward must take a back seat in figures if Mr Chamberlain can pick the winner of the match played between Mr T. Chamberlain and myself. Taking the scores as put on the marking board, you will observe that the first scores were taken correctly, then the marker showed his liberality by giving both players a score each at the same throw. Of course this is out of all reason, as only one can score at each head. In conclusion I wish to exonerate Mr T. Chamberlain from being in any way connected with the bungling of the scores, as Mr Chamberlain played a straightforward game. It has been suggested to me by several persons that the game should be played over again. This I am perfectly agreeable to, providing the match is played on the same ground, with heads in'thc rrvu. condition as on New Year's Day last. No stakes, only the honour to whoever is entitled to it,"
