Mr Coleman Phillips, of Carterton, is nothing if not fantastical. He is ftSfl!'employing his leisure moments in assailing the military .spirit which lias grOw"n"tip in this Dominion: In abetter to a Wellington paper, he makes the startling assertion ■that "The Church will indirectly- command our army, and the army-offic-ers will carry out its behests." It has yet to be discovered that there is the slightest relationship in New Zealand between the defence system and the Church. With due deference to "the sensitive disposition of Mr .Coleman Phillips, it may confidently be asserted that there is no more ■ danger of clericalism •becoming a dominant factor in the military system of .this-part of. the Empire there is of rabbitsvfteing exteri minated with insect powdefr.
