GAS MAiNS DESTROYED. EXPRESSIONS OF GOODWILL. (Received Last Night, 9 o'clock.) LISBON, January 16. The gasworkers have damaged the mains serving the suburbs. The public throughout are antagonistic to the strikers. The.. : Provisional Government has received,an imposing demonstration of goodwill. Battalions of volunteers, enrolled after the proclamation of the Republic, marched through the various Ministerial offices, accompanied by bands and thousands of people, to assure the Ministers of their support. Immediately after the demonstration the "< city was startled by an explosion, a result of a leakage of gas through the sewers being ignited by rat-catchers' lanterns. Three people Aver,e seriously burned, and several houses were damaged!! ' - .-■.-•
