MAINTENANCE CASES.
. SOMEBODY'S DARLINGS. In the Magistrate's Court, in Masterton. yesterday, before Mr L. 6. Reid, S.M., George Edward Chapman, tailor, in the employ of Mr Ball, tailor, Masterton, was charged that he was the father of Vera Chapman, who some time ago was committed to the Wellington Receiving Home, and refusing to maintain her. Mr G. H. Cullen, appeared for accused, who denied that he was the father of the child. • After hearing evidence, -His 'Worship made an order for the payment of 5s per week'in future, and 2s 6d from the date on which the child was committed to the Home. Charles Bently was charged with being the father of Myrtle Verosie Pearl Chapman. Accused pleaded not guilty. Evidence was given by Mary Ann Chapman concerning the parentage of the child. His Worship adjudged accused to be the father of the child and made an order similar ta the one in the previous case. Sergeant Miller asked that the mother of the child be compelled to contribute towards the child's maintain-, ence. His Worship held that it was unnecessary to make an order against both parents, and Sergeant Miller withdrew the information. •
