A New Plymouth telegram announces the death, after a brief illness, of Mr William Stone Pardy, ex-. Inspectoi* of Police', at the age of 75. Mr W. F. Massey, tea'der of the Opposition, arrived in Wellington from the Jsdrth on Thursday. It is not unlikely that he will visit Masterton at an early date. The Pahiatua Herald says:' A party consisting of Mr and Mrs J. D. 0. Crewe, Miss Burgess, Mr L. T. Herbert and Mr W. Wakeman have gone" to Masterton for the purpose of making an ascent of Mount Holdsworth. Mr Alexander Nelson, clerk and engineer to the Bruce County Council, has resigned after thirty-three years' service, dating from the inauguration of the county, to take effect from June 30th.
Miss Stewart, who has been matron of the Thames Hospit?>- for 25 years, was presented with an illuminated address and two hundred sovereigns, yesterday, on.- the occasion of her retirement from the position. A very representative gathering testified to the splendid services rendered by Miss Stewart. —Press Association.
Dr. Ifnllarton, who was killed in the motor accident at Invercargill this week, was a distinguished surgeon and scholar, and was dux of the Otago Boys' High School. He obtained -his B.A. at the Otago University, and his M.B.CM. at Edinburgh. He was for some years president of the Southland Racing Club.
