SOCIAL AT KOPUARANCA. At Kop.uaranga last. evening; : a farewell social was tendered to Mr Nightingale, who has been in charge of the local school.for the past nine years, and who has been appointed to the Dalefield school.

An enjoyable musical programme was presented. Songs were contributed by Misses Evans, Caverhill, M. Stuart, M. McKenzie, and Mr D. Stuart- pianoforte solos by Misses I. Franklin and TJlva Stuart, and a by Masters Q. and r "£*The programme was 'interspersed" with dancing. After -light refreshments, supplied by the ladies of: the district, were partaken of, Mr C. C. Jackson, chairman of the School Committee, delivered a 'speech, in which he referred in- glowing terms to the good work done by Mr Nightingale, and the goodwill that ' existed between him'and the School Committee. On behalf of the people of the district, Mr Jackson presented Mr Nightingale; with a handsome clock, set on a brass pedestal, and to Mrs Nightingale;; he .handed a silver cake dish.
