The death occurred at Napier on Wednesday of Mr Sam. Williams, a .member of the staff of the New Zealand Loan/arid tyiercahtile Agency C 0.,. at the "early age "of twenty-six'years. Deceased, who was very popular "in musical and amateur dramatic circles, came to the Dominion from Johannesburg some years ago. * The Auckland Star of Wednesday says: —A party of motorists, Mr and Mrs Jackson and Mr and. An interesting wedding took place at the Greytown Methodist Church yesterday, when Miss Grace Evelyn Thomas, second daughter of Mr M. Thomas, of Moroa, was married to Mr James Archer, second son of the late Mr John Archer, of Claroville. The Rev. C. H. Standage was the officiating minister. Miss Muriel Archer, sister of the bridegroom] acted as bridesmaid, and Mr Charles Archer was best - man.' . V'Mr Joseph Bittle, who" has been in the employ of the Master ton branch of the W.F.C.A. for the past nine years, has severed his connection in order to take up farming pursuits in the Auckland district. Prior to his departure, Mr Bittle was presented by the staff of the grocery department, with which he had been associated, with a case of pipes and a tobacco pouoli; The presentation was made by Mr Si. H. Ralph, and was suitably acknowledged.
The death occurred in Master ton at an early hour yesterday morning of Mr Sydney Harris, son of Mrs J. Harris, of Worksop Road. The deceased, who had been in the employ of Mr Joseph Dixon, cordial manufacturer, of Masterton, for fourteen years, was taken ill sonic days ago, and was operated upon -for appendi- ; citis. He never and died as above stated. Deceased, who was 27years of age, and was for some time a member of the Fire Police Corps'; was highly respected by all who knew him. Much sympathy is felt for his mother, two sisters, and brother, in their loss. The funeral takes place this afternoon. Mi' J. H. Berry, of the Masterton Post Office staff, has sent in his resignation, having accepted an offer in the Victorian Postal Service. The resignation takes effect at the end of February, when Mr Berry leaves for Melbourne. The genial "Jock" is one of the most prominent of a number of young athletes in the Wnirarapa, excelling in every sport he has taken up. particularly sprinting, hockey, and cricket. Mr Berry lias been six years in the service and will be missed by a large number of friends. He is a prominent member of the Wairarapa Amateur Athletic Club,, St. . Matthew's and Rivals Cricket Clubs, Post and Telegraph Hockey Club, besides being one of the founders and for several years secretary of St. Matthew's Club]
