MASTERTON COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY FETING
The monthly meeting of the Masterton County Council was held on Tuesday afternoon, in the County offices, there being present Conn-» cillovs "W. J. Welch (chairman), B. Foreman, J. Miller, J. Morris, H. Too«ood, C. C. Kebbell, and R. F. Beetham.
Leave of absence Was granted to Crs Murray and Cameron. The Upper Plain Water Supply Managers wrote, asking for permission to construct water race pipes across Railway Road, to the A. and P. Association's grounds.— On the motion of the chairman, the request was granted, subject to the work bcing° done to the satisfaction of the Engineer. "* , A letter was received from the Castlepoint County Council stating that a ratepayers' meeting decided against the deviation at Devil's Elbow.
Mr W. C. Buchanan forwarded a list of the Parliamentary votes for the district during the 1910 session.
A communication was received from Messrs Gawith and Logan, enclosing the consent of ratepayers to the Fernridge Water Supply Loan, with alterations.
The Resident Secretary of the A.M.P. Society wrote reminding the Council of interest due on Ist January, 1911, on £7OOO loan. An invitation was received from the.Public Works. Department for applications for the expenditure of an additional £SO grant for the Miki Miki Road.
The Public Works Department also invited applications for the expenditure of an additional £l5O grant ■for the Mangarai Road. Mr Holmes wrote agreeing to the Engineer's proposals with regard to t«e location of the road through Matahiwi estate.,
The v duplicate Memorandum of Agreement for the "lease by the Crown for postal purposes of the Tawataia toll-house was forwarded by the Chief Postmaster, Wellington. , . \ '. A communication was received from the Wellington School Commissioners, consenting to the extension of the -..embankments-- at. the northern approach, to Masterton. A . member, of the Taranaki County Council asked. for information concerning the terms under which the County Engineer was employed This had been supplied.
FINANCE COMMITTEE,
The Finance v-ommittee reported as fellows: —General fund account, dr.,.£1425 8s 2d; Local Bodies, cr., £3134 Iss; credit balance, £1873 lis lOd. The receipts since December 13th totalled £3OO 17s Bd, Avhile accounts totalling £2678 4s Sd (inclusive- of £1482 13s 2d interest on Government loans due on February Ist) were recommended for payment. It was resoivedj on the motion of Cr Kebbell, seconded by Cr: Beetham, that the Council be recommended, in acknowledging the receipt of Mr Boustead's letter, in which. - he agrees to accept £25 irf .full dis'cfeirge of all .claims for fencing on the-.Moroa Road, to express regret that... any misunderstanding had arisen. It was recommended that T. Bentley's claim for compensation for an alleged accident be referred to the.County solicitor with a view to enquiries being made as. to the circumstances of the case.
