The quarterly returns oi the business dealt with at the Mastertou Magistrate's Court aro as follow; Civil: Sittings presided over by a, Magistrate, 11; presided over by a J.P., 1; number'of cases lieard before a Magistrate, 67; amount sued for, £1685 lis 7d; amount recovered, £B4B is 9d; number of plaints entered, IS2; distress warrants issued, 12; judgment summonses, 37; orders made on judgment Eummonses 23; number of warrants of committal issued, 4; summonses served by Bailiff, under two miles 184, over two miles, 35; distress warrants executed by bailiff, 11 j warrants of committal executed by Bailiff, 39; civil fees collected, £96 Is. , Criminal:— Summoned and arrested, 50 males and nine females (of this number nine.males and (me female were discharged for want of prosecution); ten males dismissed and two committed for -trial. Twentynine males aijd seven females were summarily convicted, and 19 males and one female lined. Ono male was peremptorily imprisoned, orders were made against five males and six females, and four, male? were convicted and discharged. The fees and fines collected amounted to £l4 8s 6d.
