j By Telegraph — Press Association. 1 '. .;.-''■ GORE,'Last Night. An elderly man named Charles Grant Was killed on Saturday night, at Balfour. Deceased was crossing the railway yard from the main street to the station, and, being hard of hearing, had not noticed a train coming. The driver shut down the brakes and whistled, but Grant, thinking to cross the line, failed to get clear. The engine struck him in the back and the side, and when picked up he was in a comatose state. He was taken to Lumsden, but expired after he was .placed in the guard's van. Deceased came iixom Glasgow, and had been; in New i Zealand thirty-eight years. At the ) inquest yesterday a verdict of accij dental death was returned, no blame 1 being attributed to anyone.
GREYMOUTH, Last Night
John Bennington, aged 30, a single man and a plumber by trade, was found hanging by the neck to a beam in Kettle Bros.' cart-shed this morning. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. It is reported "feat, the Akaroa coaeh capsized at Duvauchelles this morning.'. Mrs Pyke, Miss Wright, arid Constable Maloney were injured. Other particulars of the accident are not yet available.
