MEETING OF STEWARDS A QUESTIOIToF STAKES. ... The /monthly meeting of the" Stewards of the Masterton Racing Club was held on Saturday afternoon, there being present Messrs C. F. Vallance (chairman), D. Caselberg, 0. C. Cooper, A. Reside, G. H." Yates, C. A. Pownall, J. loms, W. Piatt, J. Cress and D. McLachlan. On a motion for the confirmation of the last minutes, considerable discussion took place upon a resolution that it be a "recommendation" to the Programme Committee that a sum of £IOOO be allocated in stakes at the next meeting. It was urged 'by one or two of the Stewards that it'had been an "instruction" to the Committee that "this amount >hould not be exceeded. The Committee, oil the other handj had prepared a programme in which a sum of £llOO was allotted.— Eventually Mr O. C. Cooper moved that the minutes' be amended to read "That the programme be- drawn up by the Programme Committee to consist of seven races, the stakes not to exceed £IOOO, and that it be a recommendation that the hurtlle races be eliminated." Mr D. Caselberg seconded. —Mr C. A. Pownall moved, as ■ ; an amendment that the minutes of the previous meeting be confirmed as road.— The-, amendment, which, was seconded '/' the chairman, was carried on a show of hands. ■•.-'■'
The report of the meeting of the Programme Committee, „at which it .was"' decided to eliminate the hurdle events and fix the aggregate stakes at £lllO, was then discussed. After some discussion, :the report was adopted, Messrs . Cooper aiul.Caselberg dissenting. - ' : ' A letter was read "from the secre- | tary of the New Zealand' Racing Conference, stating that the mare { Dulcinea cannot be .entered, in the I N T ew Zealand Stud Book. The secretary of the Wellington Racing Club wrote, intimating that the Licenses Committee would, meet about January 6th. He. also, notified that'steps would be taken to get W. H. McKay's license granted. The secretary of the Auckland Racing Club forwarded a receipt for £2 for forfeits on Sir Solo; ■ Mr T. M. VVilford asked that the disqualification for life imposed" on R. Henrys be removed.— It was decided that no action be taken'at present. Other correspondence in regard to colours, etc., was dealt with. The Treasurer reported a debit balance at the bank of £259 15s 4d. The custodian's report was read, < and the meeting adjourned. 1
