CHAIN PRAYERS.
Some soft-headed imbecile, with a surplusage of leisure time, if not dfj capital, has been circularising Mastjerton residents with what is known as a "chain prayer.' The ■•idea ■/is that if each recipient despatches a prayer lo nine persons on each of nine days, something extraordinary will happen on the ninth day. Nobody in Masterton is, of course, silly enough to waste stamps, let alone time, upon such a ridiculous proposition. If people are disposed to prayer, there is a more simple and effective medium than per medium of the Post Office. Prayers by the square inch, or by the yard, are about as efficacious as chain-light-ning, and are by' no means as illuminating.
