WHAKATAKI SPORTS.

(By Our Own Correspondent.) - The annual sports cI the Whakataki Snorts Club were held 011 Boxing Day, in glorious weather, and with a record attendance. The entries in nearly all the events were „very good. A first-class working committee helped to make the sports a success. Messrs A. Mason (handicapper) and W. Davies deserve a special word, of praise. The judges, Messrs W. Harvey and A. B. Nicholls, gave general satisfaction. Mr R. Harvey, proved a capital starter, and Mr Harry D. Lauder (tjie secre- I tary) carried out his duties efficiently. B. Scliofield ,of Tinui, won the High Jump, at sft 1-iin., and W. F. Groves, of Whakataki, came a good second. . The married ladiel' race was an, interesting event, and | there were nine entries. The ladies I were handicapped very closely by Mr W. H. Brooks. They made a clean start, Mrs Greenbank (scratch) coming in a good first, Mrs Barty, last year's winner, securing third place. The 880 yards race, of whicli H. Carlson was the winner, was popular, both the w'inner and W. Mann (second) being local boys. The married men's race caused considerable interest ,and. when Mr W. Harvey senr. breasted the tape he was loudly cheered. He 'ivon. the silver trophy t presented by Mr R. J. Barton, Mr Broods securing second place. The mile race was full of interest. There was a difficulty in getting the required number to compete. W. Nicholas and H. Bailey made up the num1/er, and came in first and second respectively. In the horse events there was a fine parade of ladies' hacks, Recount, ridden by Miss Nicholl,-;, taking first prize, Mr K. M. Baird's horse,, ridden by Mrs Innes, being a very close second. The fourteen' entries in "the walk,s,trot and gallop was a great even V. It was run in heats, the brothers Hawera (Maoris) winning first and second prizes. Tlio results are as follow
